Food Hacks – Get salad swapping

One of the best healthy food hacks is to ditch those carbs and swap lunch or dinner for a fresh vibrant salad with a lean protein fix. Great protein salad toppers include chicken, fish, cottage cheese or chickpeas. Remember salads don’t need to be boring and health wise the more brightly coloured your ingredients the better. So get creative with your choice of flavoursome herbs, spices, pomegranate ‘jewels’ and a scattering of toasted seeds for some extra omega packed crunch.

Food Hacks – Be barbeque savvy

Make the barbeque your healthy friend this summer by becoming a kebab whizz. Take big chunks of pepper, onion, pineapple, mushrooms, courgette or whatever veggies you fancy and intersperse with chunks of your favourite lean meat, fish or tofu. Brush with your preferred marinade and you’re good to go.

Food Hacks – Jazz up water

Summer time dehydration can leave us reaching for snacks and quickly taking in empty calories. Before you reach for the snack bowl drink a glass of water and do something distracting for 20 minutes. If you’ve forgotten all about snack time chances are your body was giving you a dehydration cue.

We totally get that water isn’t always the most exciting of beverages, so it’s time to jazz things up a bit. Fresh lemon, lime, berries, mint, ginger, herbs can all transform the humble glass of tap water into something a little more exotic.

Time to bring out the fruit skewers dipped in frozen yoghurt with a drizzle of honey, griddled pineapple and peaches and foil baked bananas, or simply melt some chocolate (preferably dark 70% plus) and get dipping.
