Useful Back Care Tips
- Stand as often as you can. Standing exerts four times less pressure on your back than being seated.
- Mobilise your back first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
- Avoid weakening of muscles by taking regular exercise. It is important to keep active and strong to physically challenge your body. Remember use it or lose it!!
- When you are out shopping hold your bags in both hands so you spread the weight evenly.
- When picking objects up from the floor bend the knees keeping the back straight and keep the object close to you as you lift with the LEGS and not the back. Avoid twisting as you lift.
- If you use a computer, ensure the centre of the monitor is set at eye level.
- Drink plenty of good quality water like Evian and Vittel. Your daily water intake can be calculated by multiplying your bodyweight in Kg’s by 0.033.
- Invest in a quality Swiss Ball and master some simple exercises that will help mobilise your spine. Contact a C.H.E.K Practitioner for advice.
